Tribute to Springfield O Scale Layout
The Tribute to Springfield layout is a 6'x12' portable O scale (two rail) switching layout featuring scenes from the Eastern States Exposition. The layout is based upon the old railroad spur which used to serve the Big E up until the late 1970s. Since my interest is in the Railroad Hobby Show, I've taken this prototype and stirred in some fantasy to create a model railroad of the spur if it existed in the present day and the model railroad show was served by 1:1 scale trains. Since the layout is portable, it is put on display at public events - yes - including at the Railroad Hobby Show annually in January.
As of January 2017, the layout is about 80% complete - mostly with details left to add. It is expected to make an appearance at the 2017 Railroad Hobby Show on January 28-29, 2017 at the Amherst Railway Society Railroad Hobby Show. It will be setup inside the Young Building.
During construction of the layout, I kept a blog of progress - plus all kinds of other interesting items about the show. While the blog is no longer active, the archive is online. Take a look back at the various daily posts, by category, below.
