1998 Big Railroad Hobby Show
Held over the weekend of January 31 to February 1, the 1998 edition of the BIG Railroad Hobby Show was another success. Over 20,000 people ventured to the Big E to see the show - which was only in two buildings at this point.
In the Better Living Center, the Amherst Belt Lines layout and Southern New England O Scalers were the main attractions. The Amherst Belt Lines layout included the Dry Hill Terminal special interest group who connected their massive - working - HO scale hump yard into the Belt Lines display. Just around the corner from the hump yard, many show participants were wowed by Overland Models had a large display of brass equipment. The glass case display showed off numerous products from the company including everything from steam power to the latest modern diesel projects.
Over in the Young Building, the Mohegan Pequot Model Railroad Club displayed four separate modular railroads in HO, N, O, and G scales - filling the center of the building. With so many layouts, the group used a tractor trailer to haul the modules to and from the show again as they had in 1997.
