2014 Railroad Hobby Show

Show Highlights

2014 marked a first in the history of the Railroad Hobby Show - a 1:1 scale (aka real) freight car was exhibited as part of the show. The Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum hauled a narrow gauge dairy car from their museum in Maine down to West Springfield for the weekend.  The car had been recently restored by the organization and had been turned into a walk in display for the show. A temporary set of stairs was constructed to allow visitors a chance to walk inside and see what the inside of a turn-of-the-century narrow gauge dairy car was like. It was quite a site to be seen inside the Mallary Complex.

Besides the dairy car, there were a number of other new exhibitors. The Great Falls Model Railroad Club setup a wild 2,000 SF (not a typo) G scale layout not too far away from the WW&F's dairy car.  The layout featured a number of loops of track where long G scale freight trains wound up, over, and through each other in a visual maze. For their efforts, the group earned a Best in Show award.

The 2015 Railroad Hobby Show will be held on January 24 and 25, 2015.
